What are the ergonomic advantages of typeSmart?
eText typeSmart is the only typing tutor that has been designed to maximize comfort to the keyboard user, and to minimize the risk of injury.
However, we stress that YOU have to take responsibility for implementing its features and taking care of your personal health. In the Digital Age ALL computer users are subject to the risk of injury, not just full time typists.
Depending on your country, the potential injury may be called Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD),Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS) or carpal tunnel injury. Technically, these are all work-related musculoskeletal disorders. We believe RSI is the most descriptive and easily understood term, so that’s why we use it.
The Direct Reaching of typeSmart eliminates the awkward keystrokes of the home key techniques that are stressful on the wrists and forearms. The eText Method also reduces the psychological stress levels caused by the problems of the Home Keys technique, and the performance anxiety of traditional learning methods, by using modern psychological learning principles.
These features of typeSmart are subject to your conscientiously maintaining the right posture and habits. In this regard, the Comfort and Safety module of typeSmart provides an interactive quiz on your posture and habits, and estimates your present and future levels of risk relative to your comfort and safety. This module is the second module on the Learning Centre, and completing it is a condition of the license of use of the software.
There also Do’s and Don’ts and Hand-Wrist exercises under the Guides section of the software to read and follow.
