What are the Key-Finger Groups?
The 8 Key-Finger Groups are the groups of keys used by expert
typists, and the typeSmart, that correspond to your 8 fingers. The
Home Keys are ASDF-JKL; of the second row, on the industry standard
QWERTY keyboard.
The Key-Finger Groups are the basis of typeSmart, and are clearly indicated by different colors in the
typeSmart software. The eText ‘mind-map’ starts with making a clear
distinction between left and right hands, as is done with some split or
‘natural’ keyboards.
Each hand is then divided into four
groups corresponding to the fingers, as shown in the figure. The index
finger of the left hand relates to the letters T-G-B-R-F-V. The middle
finger of the left hand relates to the letters E-D-C, and so on, until
the whole mind-mapping is learnt. (Mind-mapping is a concept invented
and used by Tony Buzan and adopted by many industry trainers.)
You do not need to memorize the Key-Finger Groups, as you progressively learn these in using the typeSmart Software.
